In the Tokyo stock market on the morning of the 13th, the Nikkei 225 was down more than ¥1,600 from the previous week’s close. While AI-related stocks weighed on the index, buying interest emerged in many Prime-listed stocks, with approximately 60% of the overall market rising.
The Nikkei 225 started the session down ¥466.07 from the previous week’s close at ¥68,564.85, extending its decline. Following developments in the US market, selling emerged first in semiconductor-related stocks, weighing on the Nikkei 225.
Meanwhile, buying interest emerged in sectors outside AI-related stocks, including financials and automobiles, and approximately 60% of Prime-listed stocks rose. The TOPIX decline was limited to around 0.4%.
Market participants said, “Buying may be emerging as a reaction to the decline in the latter half of last week. Persistently high bond yields are also supporting financial stocks.”
AI-related stocks, including Advantest and SoftBank Group, ranked among the largest negative contributors to the Nikkei 225.
The Nikkei 225 continued to decline after the opening, and the morning session’s developments could determine the market’s subsequent direction.
