Mitsubishi Motors conducted driving tests of the new Pajero at the Tottori Sand Dunes Lunar Demonstration Field “Luna Terrace” in Tottori Prefecture. On sandy terrain simulating the lunar environment, the company verified the optimization of drive-force distribution and vehicle dynamics control for driving scenarios including starting, acceleration, turning, and uphill and downhill travel.
Development testing of the new Pajero was conducted at the Tottori Sand Dunes Lunar Demonstration Field “Luna Terrace.” Unlike previous sand-terrain tests, the site provides an evaluation environment in Japan.
The driving tests used sandy terrain simulating the lunar environment to verify and optimize drive-force distribution and vehicle dynamics control functions during basic maneuvers including starting, acceleration, turning, and uphill and downhill travel. The aim was to improve off-road capability and handling.
Use of Luna Terrace is expected to reduce the time and cost of transporting test vehicles and shorten the development and evaluation cycle. The company explained that strengthening its evaluation capabilities in Japan would also help improve the efficiency of off-road vehicle development.
Mitsubishi Motors indicated that it will continue using Luna Terrace to enhance the driving appeal of the new Pajero and other products. Information about the official special website was also provided as related information.
