Apple announced 6 smartphones in September. The announcement included the pre-order and release dates, price and key specifications for the iPhone Duo, its first horizontally folding foldable, while the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to cost approximately ¥40,000 more than the previous model.
Apple announced 6 products on 10 September, Japan time. The lineup comprised the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro/18 Pro Max smartphones, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 smartwatches, and the AirPods 5 fully wireless earbuds. The standard iPhone 18 was not announced.
The iPhone Duo is positioned as a horizontally folding foldable smartphone and comes in 2 colors, Star White and Night Sky. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on 16 October, with the launch scheduled for 23 October. The price starts at ¥364,800, including tax. It comes in 4 storage capacities: 256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB. It weighs 254g and features a 7.6-inch display when unfolded and a 5.4-inch display when folded, with a 1:1.4 aspect ratio. Official cases include the iPhone Duo Case at ¥14,800 and the iPhone Duo Folio at ¥24,800.
The iPhone Duo display features ProMotion at 120Hz, an outdoor peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a Nano-Texture coating to reduce reflections. It is also designed to make the fold line less conspicuous.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be approximately ¥40,000 more expensive in Japan than its predecessor, prompting comments about a sense of steep price inflation in the device market. The standard iPhone 18 was not announced, and some reports pointed to potential effects on migration to Android and the flow of devices into the second-hand market.
