Apple unveiled a host of new products at its "Surprise and shine" event in the early hours of 10 September Japan time. The company introduced iPhone 18 Pro/Max, the foldable iPhone Duo, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Ultra 4, and announced the pre-order and release dates for each model.
The event began at 2:00 a.m. local time and was held as the first product announcement event since CEO John Ternus (ジョン・ターナス) took office. The company announced iPhone 18 Pro/Max, iPhone Duo, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5, and specified the pre-order and release dates for each product.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max feature an A20 Pro chip built using a 2-nanometer process and a next-generation vapor chamber. They offer a variable-aperture main camera, up to 45 hours of video playback, and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options. The four available colors are burgundy, glacier, silver, and black.
iPhone Duo is foldable, with a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch built-in display when opened. It features built-in fingerprint authentication through Touch ID and is expected to support Apple Pencil (USB-C) input by the end of the year.
AirPods 5 have been upgraded to IP57 dust and water resistance, with improved noise cancellation compared with previous models. They come in two versions, one with a wireless charging case and a standard model, and also add features such as the ability to play a sound from the case.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 feature high-precision sensors and the S11 chip, substantially improving battery life in everyday use. Case materials include aluminum, titanium, ceramic, and more. A video of the event has also been released.
