Nikkei has begun calculating and publishing a new stock index, the “Nikkei High Dividend Yield Stock 30 Index.” It selects 30 stocks with high forecast dividend yields from the 500 largest companies by market capitalization listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market.
Nikkei Inc. announced that it would begin calculating and publishing a new stock index, the “Nikkei High Dividend Yield Stock 30 Index,” on the 19th. The index will select 30 stocks with high forecast dividend yields from the 500 largest companies by market capitalization listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market.
The initial constituents are expected to include Japan Tobacco (JT) and Infroneer Holdings, among others, and the constituents will be reviewed every June.
The new index has a more concentrated composition than the Nikkei High Dividend Yield Stock 50 Index, which is calculated using the 50 highest-yielding constituents of the Nikkei Stock Average. Its forecast dividend yield was 4.4% as of the end of September, compared with 1.4% for the Nikkei Stock Average and 3.6% for the Nikkei High Dividend Yield Stock 50 Index. The new index is expected to reflect movements in high-dividend stocks more clearly.
