Umios President Daisuke Yasuda (安田 大助) has outlined a policy of moving into a new growth stage with the full strength of the group, with growth investment focused on strengthening downstream operations in North America and the pet food business, according to reports.
Following the change in corporate name from Maruha Nichiro to Umios and the relocation of its head office, President Daisuke Yasuda (安田 大助) is pursuing the group's management strategy under the new structure. In an interview, he expressed his desire to move forward as the new Umios, with the group acting as one.
Under the previous medium-term management plan, the company achieved ¥1 trillion in net sales and ¥30 billion in operating income, and under the current plan it has set a target of increasing operating income to ¥40 billion. It is pursuing the provision of sustainable protein and the creation of health value, while promoting its glocal strategy.
The company plans to invest ¥140 billion in future growth, allocating 56% to strengthening downstream operations centered on North America and 18% to strengthening the pet food business. In North America, it holds resource access rights for approximately 310,000 tonnes and aims to strengthen its processing and sales functions. In pet food, it acquired a Malaysian company and is working to develop the Asian market.
The company views overseas operations as a growth area and aims to secure earnings across the entire value chain, from upstream to downstream, through its glocal strategy. In response to the shrinking domestic market, it is also reviewing its production lines and expanding products centered on health. Its talent strategy also highlights the benefits of relocating head-office functions to Takanawa Gateway in Tokyo.
