Itoham Yonekyu Holdings announced that it had acquired Greenlea through its New Zealand subsidiary ANZCO. The company aims to expand its beef business and generate synergies, while expecting to stabilize sourcing capacity and plant utilization on the North Island.
Itoham Yonekyu Holdings announced that it had acquired Greenlea in New Zealand. As part of its growth strategy, the company aims to expand its local beef business in anticipation of growing global demand for protein.
Greenlea is a company with which ANZCO has built a close relationship over many years, and the acquisition was completed through private negotiations rather than a tender offer. ANZCO's main sourcing region is the South Island, while Greenlea has stable sourcing and processing capacity centered on the North Island.
The combination of the two companies is expected to generate synergies. Their sales destinations also overlap substantially, including North America, China, Europe and the Middle East, and transaction optimization is expected to progress.
The question is whether the New Zealand business could help curb profit volatility in the meat business caused by grain market conditions.
