Having reached its 168th year since founding, KADOYA SESAME MILLS INCORPORATED has announced a policy of targeting global markets by standardizing its logo in English, building on its history of promoting sesame oil for home use.
Known for its cinched bottle with a yellow cap found in household kitchens, KADOYA SESAME MILLS INCORPORATED is introduced as the leading producer, with approximately 45% of Japan's sesame oil market. Its origins lie in an oil mill on the islands of Shodoshima, and its founding dates back to 1858, at the end of the Edo period.
The company has continued to uphold its artisans' commitment to putting quality first since its founding, and the mountain-and-corner mark is engraved on its packaging as a symbol of its uncompromising standards. KADOYA was responsible for popularizing sesame oil, which had previously been used mainly by commercial customers, in small bottles for home use.
In its 168th year, the company has set its sights on full-scale global expansion and indicated a policy of standardizing its corporate logo as the English-language “KADOYA” around 5 November 2026, in line with “Sesame Day.” Alongside this, it will use “Open up the possibilities of sesame.” as its brand message.
The company has secured approximately 70% of the North American market and already has a strong presence in the United States and Canada. The tradition that began on a corner site in Shodoshima, together with the transformation of dining tables through small bottles, is leading to a new challenge aimed at dining tables around the world.
