ニチコン announced that it would conduct free inspections after identifying a manufacturing problem in batteries installed in some of its residential tri-hybrid energy storage systems, the T3 series. On 24 September, ニチコン announced that a manufacturing problem had been identified in batteries installed in some of its residential T3 series energy storage systems and that it would conduct free inspections. Because the batteries may emit smoke and, in the worst case, catch fire, the affected products are limited to some units equipped with batteries manufactured from June through August 2023. The affected models include ESS-T3S1, ESS-T3M1, ESS-T3L1 and ESS-T3X1, and are limited to units equipped with batteries manufactured during the relevant period.
The inspection applies to products whose battery unit or expansion battery unit has a serial number beginning with a specified character string. Purchasers will be sent information about the free inspection, schedules will be arranged by telephone, and on-site inspections will be conducted. A dedicated contact center has been established, with support also available outside weekdays.
