The Nikkei 225 rose sharply, briefly gaining more than ¥2,000, against the backdrop of buying in AI and semiconductor-related stocks. Buying continued through the latter part of the session, and the Nikkei 225 ended trading substantially higher than the previous day.
The index closed at ¥68,956, approximately ¥2,203 higher than at the end of last month, settling above the ¥68,000 level. It was the first time in approximately 1.5 months that it had recovered above ¥68,000 across sessions.
Investors viewed the revival in AI and semiconductor-related stocks as a positive factor, while Micron’s strong earnings announcement and the yen’s depreciation were seen as attracting funds. Some analysts also said buying concentrated in stocks that appeared undervalued after falling for approximately 3 months.
