Kyoto Omuro KADENSHO, located in front of the World Heritage Site Ninna-ji, has won the 2026 Good Design Award organised by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, a public interest incorporated foundation. The architectural plan respects the history and landscape of Ninna-ji, with the building set back more than 25 metres from the approach to blend into the surrounding tranquillity and scenery. Its design was recognised for embodying the integration of architecture and garden.
The interior reinterprets traditional design elements inspired by the Ninna-ji Omuro Palace in a contemporary style. Facilities include a tea room recreating the Important Cultural Property Ryokakutei as a tea house, a corridor-style dining area, a large public bath and private baths. The 67 rooms in total use fusuma screens and ant walls to create a sense of spaciousness and quality, while the lounge offers views of Ninna-ji’s Niomon Gate and other elements designed to convey the atmosphere of the World Heritage Site.
The facility’s official name is Kyoto Omuro KADENSHO. Its grand opening was on 3 July 2026, and it is located at 1-4 Omuro Shibahashi-cho, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto. The property has 67 guest rooms, and the building comprises 3 above-ground floors and 1 basement floor. Shared facilities include a large public bath, private baths, a dining area, a lounge and a relaxation facility.
The property is one of the Japanese-style hot-spring inns operated under Kyoritsu Maintenance’s brand and forms part of its resort hotel business, which is developed primarily in the Keihanshin area. The official website and related materials also provide an overview of the Good Design Award and an introduction to the company’s business.
