“TKP SHONIN PARK,” a mixed-use resort facility in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, has won the Architecture (Industrial/Commercial Facilities) category of the 2026 Good Design Award. Its integrated design combining nature and architecture, making use of the pine grove and ocean views, was recognised.
“TKP SHONIN PARK,” a mixed-use resort facility incorporating the natural landscape of Shonin'gahama Park overlooking Beppu Bay, has won the 2026 Good Design Award. Its design, which emphasises circulation throughout the park and harmony with the natural environment, was recognised.
The award applies to TKP SHONIN PARK. The judging panel praised the boldness of integrating the pine grove and park scenery with the architecture, saying it enhances the spatial experience. The facility uses the Park-PFI system and places emphasis on the overall value of the park experience, in which scenery, movement routes and visitor activities flow together.
The design comprises three main elements. The first is a nature-integrated spatial design that blends into the scenery of Beppu Bay and the pine grove, with wooden and container structures preserving the continuity of the pine grove. The second is the dispersed placement of accommodation, dining and bathing facilities to create a variety of visitor experiences. The third is the integrated design of routes within the grounds, enhancing circulation throughout the park.
TKP SHONIN PARK is located at 795-1 Shonin'kehamacho, Beppu. It opened on 24 July 2025 and includes the accommodation cottages “ISHINOYA Beppu,” the seaside sand bath “Sand SPA” and the restaurant “Grill Takka.” Official website: https://www.shoninpark.jp/.
