As the Nikkei Average extended its decline, semiconductor-related stocks showed divergent performance. Kioxia Holdings plunged, while Tokyo Electron rose.
The Nikkei Average extended its decline, briefly turning positive before weakening. Domestic investors became more reluctant to buy amid declines in the Dow and SOX indexes in the US market and Intel's earnings results.
Among semiconductor-related stocks, Kioxia Holdings plunged and SCREEN Holdings also fell. Tokyo Electron rose on stronger-than-expected earnings and expectations for AI demand. Lasertec rose following an upward revision to its WFE outlook, while other IT and software stocks were notably lower.
Kioxia decided to pay a dividend of ¥30 per share as an interim dividend. Chugoku Electric Power's increased dividend forecast attracted investor attention, and there were also announcements of share buybacks.
