Morita Takeharu (森田健晴), Executive Fellow at Sekisui Solar Film, is advancing demonstration projects for 1-meter-wide film-based perovskite solar cells, and sales began in March this year. Demonstration testing is now gaining momentum at gymnasium roofs, exterior walls and around airports. The company also established the world's first 1-meter-wide continuous production technology in FY2025 and aims to begin mass production at an annual capacity of 100 MW from FY2027. From FY2030 onward, it envisages expansion to the 1 GW scale.
Morita Takeharu (森田健晴), Executive Fellow at Sekisui Solar Film, discusses the practical application of film-based perovskite solar cells. Demonstration projects are under way at gymnasium roofs, building exterior walls and alongside airport runways, and sales also began in March.
The company says it established the world's first 1-meter-wide continuous production technology, or roll-to-roll technology, in FY2025, and is making progress in developing its production system. Under its current plan, it will use the Sakai plant, begin mass production at the 100 MW scale from FY2027, and then expand to the 1 GW scale from FY2030 onward based on demand trends.
The initiative is attracting attention as a next-generation power-generation technology originating in Japan, with a path toward commercialisation taking shape through both demonstration projects and production capacity.
