On the 8th, the Nikkei average fell sharply for the first time in three sessions, closing ¥1,130 lower at ¥65,269. With the weaker dollar also contributing, concerns over yen appreciation spread and declines led from the opening.
Volatile trading continued during the session. After the decline widened to more than ¥600, the market briefly made a sharp turnaround and moved into modestly positive territory, but ultimately fell back into negative territory, with selling triggering further selling toward the close.
Seria rose sharply on favorable monthly sales figures, while declines in electronic component stocks including TAIYO YUDEN, Murata Manufacturing and TDK stood out, and stock-specific movements influenced the market. Trading value on the TSE Prime Market was approximately ¥8.47 trillion, while trading volume was approximately 2.10 billion shares.
