Teijin Group plans to integrate its IT organisation and advance the integration of systems and data under a policy of using AI across the company. The Group CDO discussed specific examples and objectives at a forum.
Teijin Group, which operates businesses including materials, textile products and healthcare, faces different business processes and systems across its businesses and regions. To promote company-wide use of AI, it has set out a policy of integrating systems and data, starting with the integration of its IT organisation. The Group's CDO expressed this view at the AI Capital Management Forum held in autumn 2026.
It was noted that companies outside Japan have a stronger tendency than Japanese companies to standardise business processes and systems, making it easier to create an "AI-Ready" environment for using AI. In Japan, meanwhile, it was stressed that systems and business processes, not only data, need to be integrated and standardised so that dispersed data can be used.
A shift in the business model was cited as moving beyond supplying materials toward creating value with customers by combining products and services. Examples included proposals combining multiple materials in the textile products business and combinations of products and services for sleep apnoea syndrome in the healthcare business. Accumulating operational knowledge as data and using it with AI was described as important.
The integration of the IT organisation was cited as the first step toward integration. The aim is to enable the company-wide situation to be understood by integrating dispersed data and systems.
