Tokyo stocks fell back at the morning close. The Nikkei Stock Average, which had risen nearly ¥700 at one point during the morning session, lost momentum after buying subsided and ultimately traded in negative territory.
The Nikkei Stock Average stood at ¥66,164.19 at the morning close on the 27th, down ¥97.97 from the previous business day. Estimated morning trading volume on the Prime Market was 974.67 million shares, while estimated trading value was ¥4.2745 trillion. Advancing issues numbered 650, declining issues 841, and 64 issues were unchanged.
The market opened with buying prevailing, and the Nikkei Stock Average rose nearly ¥700 at one point, approaching the ¥67,000 level. However, after investment funds flowed into AI- and semiconductor-related stocks following Nvidia's strong earnings announced early in the morning, prices gave up their gains amid profit-taking sales. The Nikkei became increasingly range-bound and, despite showing resilience, moved into negative territory.
Among individual stocks, SoftBank Group, Advantest and Disco were weak. Fast Retailing, Chugai Pharmaceutical, KDDI, Yamaha Motor, Sumitomo Metal Mining and Recruit Holdings also declined. Renova fell sharply, while Kioxia Holdings advanced sharply. Fujikura, Ibiden, TDK and Tokyo Electron traded firmly.
Across the market, the TSE Growth Market Index was up more than 2% at one point, while more than half of the issues on the Prime Market declined.
