As US stocks rose on expectations of lower US long-term interest rates, TSE Growth Market 250 Index futures were expected to see mixed trading, with the market focused on the upside and selling pressure on rebounds while watching the move from the previous day.
In the Tokyo stock market on the 4th, the Nikkei Stock Average opened higher, with buying leading in AI- and semiconductor-related stocks, while TSE Growth Market 250 Index futures were expected to see mixed trading. Among individual stocks, SoftBank Group, Advantest and Fujikura were among those bought, and the Nikkei at one point rose more than 300 yen.
Following comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, views spread that there were signs of a slowdown in recent inflation trends. There were also expectations that, depending on upcoming data, expectations for the FOMC to leave interest rates unchanged could strengthen. US long-term interest rates declined in response, and buying was dominant, particularly in economically sensitive stocks and mega-cap technology stocks.
Although a scenario in which buying led in the morning was expected for TSE Growth Market 250 Index futures, selling pressure on rebounds was also seen at higher levels, resulting in a short-term adjustment. The 5-day moving average, the conversion line of the Ichimoku Cloud and the positive sigma line of the Bollinger Bands were cited as resistance levels on the daily chart.
In overnight trading, futures closed at 785 points, and market participants expected the upside target to be 795 points and the downside target to be 770 points. The focus ahead will be the FOMC's policy decision and the economic data to be released, with movements in US interest rates likely to influence the broader market.
