Seven Bank,Ltd. deployed mobile ATMs to areas affected by the Kumamoto Earthquake. At the request of local authorities, the ATMs were installed in parking lots and other locations at facilities serving as evacuation shelters in Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture, where seismic intensity 7 was recorded.
The mobile ATMs are mounted on dedicated trucks equipped with generators and have 2 types of mechanisms. A total of 2 units were used: one fixed at the level of the truck bed and another that can be lowered to the ground for use.
The units are the same models used at Seven-Eleven stores and can process transactions with approximately 700 partner financial institutions. Design features also include accommodations for people with visual impairments, such as audio guidance.
The need for cash was high in the affected areas, and the mobile ATMs enabled residents to withdraw money for living expenses and medical visits. Affected residents expressed their appreciation. Seven Bank,Ltd. said it would consider further deployments if requested by local authorities.
The history of mobile ATMs began in response to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and the deployment following the Kumamoto Earthquake was the first since 2020.
