Russell Ellwanger, CEO of Tower Semiconductor of Israel, which specializes in optical communications semiconductors, said investment to expand the company’s production bases in Japan would exceed ¥600 billion. This would make Japan the company’s largest production base. Collaboration with the NTT Group is also being considered.
As a foundry, the company manufactures semiconductors on behalf of other companies. It has two domestic production bases in Toyama Prefecture and one in Niigata Prefecture. The focus this time is on expanding its domestic production system by strengthening existing sites and making new investments.
The investment is expected to be driven in part by efforts to stabilize logistics and the supply chain, as well as growing domestic demand. The company also referred to production capabilities in other regions, including the United States, raising the possibility of closer cooperation with Japanese companies and the NTT Group as its business develops.
