Tokyo Artisan Intelligence raised a total of ¥1.27 billion in the first close of its Series C. The funds will be used to build production capacity and a supply chain under Japan-Malaysia cooperation, including in Malaysia, and to hire personnel specializing in AI algorithms and semiconductor design.
Tokyo Artisan Intelligence (TAI), which develops edge AI solutions and AI semiconductor chips, announced that it had raised a total of ¥1.27 billion in the first close of its Series C. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Capital led the round, while Watakyu Holdings, the TOKYO KEIKI INC. Group and ADT subscribed through a third-party allotment, and Mizuho Bank participated in the financing. The breakdown between the equity financing and debt financing was not disclosed.
TAI is built on AI and semiconductor research originating at Tohoku University and develops everything in-house, from software for edge AI to dedicated computers and semiconductor chips. Its products include HARBOR, an on-premises AI server that manages and retrains field data and AI models, and SEASIDE, an edge AI computer suited to field deployment. The company cites installations including monitoring equipment for railways and infrastructure, and AI cameras for local governments.
In the railway sector, the company also provides a function in which edge AI installed on rolling stock and fixed cameras detects track abnormalities and obstacles in real time. For local governments, it supports policy development using a system that extracts only statistical data without storing video. It offers product lines integrating semiconductor design and software expertise to meet field environments with stringent power and enclosure-size constraints.
In the semiconductor field, TAI has completed evaluation of its internally developed test chip, StingRay, and has moved into full-scale development of the Manta Ray AI semiconductor chip project with mass production in mind. In June, it entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Oppstar. Going forward, it is expected to develop a supply chain centered on Malaysia, conduct field trials, and accelerate the commercialization of integrated solutions.
