Tokyo Keiki Group and its subsidiary announced an investment in and capital and business alliance with edge AI company Tokyo Artisan Intelligence (TAI). The companies will strengthen their collaboration in railway equipment through AI, while exploring business expansion into other fields.
Tokyo Keiki Group and 東京計器レールテクノ (TRT) formally announced on 6 October 2026 that they had invested in and formed a capital and business alliance with Tokyo Artisan Intelligence (TAI), which develops edge AI solutions. By integrating AI and semiconductor technologies into their own products, the companies aim to enhance the competitiveness of niche-leading products in the infrastructure sector.
The two companies have already been collaborating in the railway equipment business, jointly developing technology that integrates AI into video of track surroundings captured by line-scan cameras mounted on railcars, automatically identifying defective areas. Through this capital alliance, they plan to expand these efforts beyond the railway sector.
TAI is a startup engaged in research and development of deep-learning algorithms, the development and sale of edge AI products, and the training of AI professionals. It aims to implement “physical AI,” in which AI autonomously makes decisions and takes action in manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure maintenance and other operating environments. Tokyo Keiki expects to combine TAI’s technology with its own manufacturing capabilities to accelerate product development.
The investment amount and ownership stake have not been disclosed. Going forward, the companies plan to strengthen product competitiveness and accelerate the development of new products by sharing technical challenges.
