The 6 companies TOPPAN Holdings, Aisin, Asahi Kasei, SoftBank, AGC and DIC have been selected for a subsidized project publicly solicited by NEDO and will undertake joint research and development of a materials development platform using quantum technology. From fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2028, they will validate the use of quantum computing in materials development.
The 6 companies TOPPAN Holdings, Aisin, Asahi Kasei, SoftBank, AGC and DIC have been selected for a subsidized project under NEDO's publicly solicited "Post-5G Information and Communications System Infrastructure Enhancement Research and Development Project (Acceleration of the Development and Demonstration of Next-Generation Quantum Computers to Address Social Issues)." The joint proposal is titled "Research and Development for Building an Innovative Materials Development Platform Using Quantum Technology."
Under the collaboration, the companies will validate the development of a new materials development platform using quantum computing from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2028. The scope includes material systems with strong industrial demand, such as battery materials for next-generation batteries, photofunctional materials required for new displays and sensors, and superconducting materials for next-generation devices.
The plan calls for developing an integrated technology combining quantum computing-centered computation and AI, with the aim of enabling large-scale calculations while reducing computational costs. The companies will also link simulation results, including those from quantum computing, with materials synthesis and performance evaluation, compare them with experimental results, and advance validation aimed at improving prediction accuracy and practical application.
Related links include announcement materials from SoftBank, among others, and further updates are expected to disclose specific results.
