Applications have opened for an area to attract private-sector companies to the multifunctional defense hub at the former Nippon Steel site in Kure City. The selection is targeted for around May next year, and required documents must be submitted by the 30th of next month.
The Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency has opened applications to attract private-sector companies engaged in the manufacture and research and development of defense equipment, as part of a plan to develop a multifunctional defense hub at the former Nippon Steel site in Kure City.
In addition to an ammunition depot and an unmanned aircraft manufacturing facility, the planned site will include a defense industry-related “private-sector company attraction area,” where eligible companies will be selected.
Applicants are required to have knowledge and technology related to the manufacture, maintenance and repair, and research and development of defense equipment. Required documents must be submitted by the 30th of next month, with selection scheduled for around May next year.
Defense Minister Koizumi said that companies would be selected “after also taking into account their contributions to the local economy.”
