MongoDB reported results ahead of expectations, with growth in Atlas and Enterprise Advanced pointing to improving profitability as the products capture large AI-related workloads. The key factors behind the successive upward revisions to its outlook are outlined.
MongoDB has reported recent solid performance and upwardly revised earnings forecasts, while maintaining growth in usage and improving profitability by balancing investment in its product portfolio with sales capacity.
A near-term tailwind is the continued expansion of Atlas adoption among large, data-intensive workloads related to AI and digital transformation. The biggest risks, meanwhile, are price pressure from competition with cloud providers’ database offerings and open-source alternatives, along with longer payback periods for customer acquisition.
Following the latest earnings announcement, analysts have successively raised their forecasts, citing billings and revenue ahead of previous expectations, as well as contributions from contracts with large enterprises running AI-native workloads and making extensive use of Atlas.
MongoDB’s long-term outlook calls for revenue of US$4.6 billion and earnings of US$295.3 million by 2029. Analysts assume annual revenue growth of approximately 17.9% and expect current earnings of approximately US$58.9 million to increase nearly fivefold.
Other estimates of fair value are also available, with some assessments indicating as much as 6% upside from the current share price.
