MongoDB shares fell 17.4% following the earnings release and an upgraded outlook. The focus is on how Atlas and AI adoption will translate into profitability.
In its earnings release, MongoDB raised its full-year FY2027 revenue outlook from $2.99 billion to $3.03 billion and indicated that earnings per share are expected to turn positive. This suggested that continued adoption of AI capabilities centered on Atlas could lead to sustainable profitability.
The company's latest outlook is based on the assumption that solid adoption of Atlas and AI will strengthen profitability. At the same time, the risk that slowing revenue growth and intensifying price competition could pressure margins was also highlighted, with the analysis stating that investors need to assess how achievable these projections are.
The analysis presented a long-term forecast of approximately $4.3 billion in revenue and approximately $276.70 million in profit in 2029, assuming annual revenue growth of approximately 18.1% and improved profitability. It also referred to fair value estimates and potential upside in the share price.
From another perspective, an optimistic estimate assumes approximately $5.0 billion in revenue and approximately $391.30 million in profit by 2029. At the same time, the potential for international expansion costs and compliance requirements to weigh on profitability was also noted, leaving multiple views in play.
