Secom began offering Safe Assist, a corporate service that centrally manages the recording, notification and response process when employees experience customer harassment, on 1 October. The service enables employees to send real-time HELP notifications to supervisors from the scene and supports location sharing and data management.
As the revised Comprehensive Promotion of Labour Policies Act clarifies employers' legal obligation to take measures against customer harassment, guidance from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare calls for communicating policies, establishing response systems and responding promptly. Against this backdrop, Secom has launched a new service to support an organisation-wide response when employees experience customer harassment at the scene.
Safe Assist allows employees experiencing customer harassment at the scene to record audio using a dedicated app on an iPhone or Apple Watch and store it in the cloud. It also features a press-and-hold function for sending a HELP notification to a supervisor. Supervisors can receive the notification, check the employee's location and play audio from the scene to assess the situation.
The relevant department, such as the headquarters customer-harassment response office, can centrally manage employees' transmissions and audio data through a PC administration interface and coordinate the organisational response. Unlike IC recorders and similar devices, the service uses iPhones and Apple Watches, with the key feature that recording and reporting can be handled in one process when necessary.
