北陸電力's subsidiary 北電BEST and UACJ have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable electricity generated by solar power and will begin supplying it via a dedicated transmission line. The contract runs for 20 years, with supply scheduled to start on 1 November.
北陸電力ビズ・エナジーソリューション (北電BEST) and major aluminium rolling company UACJ have entered into a PPA under which a solar power plant will be established in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture, and the renewable electricity generated will be supplied to UACJ's Fukui manufacturing facility.
Power will be transmitted over a roughly 4-kilometre route linking the power plant and the manufacturing facility, via a dedicated private transmission line installed and maintained by 北電BEST rather than using the general transmission and distribution network.
Annual power generation is expected to be 8.5 GWh, and the PPA is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 27,694 tonnes annually.
The solar panels at the power plant will be mounted on frames made from recycled aluminium, which is scheduled to be recycled when the plant is decommissioned.
