At the afternoon open in the Tokyo stock market on the 14th, the Nikkei Average stood around ¥68,300, up approximately ¥520 from the previous day, supported by overseas investors' futures buying and higher South Korean stocks.
At the afternoon open in the Tokyo stock market on the 14th, the Nikkei Average rose to around ¥520 above the previous day's close and was trading around ¥68,300. The market as a whole was seen as resilient, while buying of stock index futures by overseas investors stood out. A recovery in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) is also viewed as a factor behind the futures buying.
Among the notable trading activity, basket trades worth approximately ¥28.5 billion were executed in off-auction trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market. Following the morning close, block trades by large investors were reportedly carried out in multiple stocks.
Among individual stocks, Advantest, SoftBank Group, Tokyo Electron and Fujikura rose, while Olympus, Terumo and Otsuka Holdings fell. Kioxia extended its decline.
Factors supporting the Nikkei Average's gains included overseas buying interest, trends in overseas markets and movements in individual stocks. Going forward, futures trends and price movements in major stocks may continue to influence the market.
