The Nikkei 225 fell for a third straight session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on the 15th, closing at ¥63,484.10. SoftBank Group rebounded sharply from the previous day's decline, while investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of monetary policy meetings.
The Nikkei 225 fell for a third straight trading session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on the 15th, closing ¥8.89 lower than the previous day at ¥63,484.10. The TOPIX ended trading at 4037.16, as the market continued to feel the effects of the previous day's decline in U.S. semiconductor stocks. Investors refrained from active trading in response to the factors announced the previous day, and trading remained cautious ahead of monetary policy meetings.
In morning trading, the Nikkei 225 was up ¥589.37 from the previous day at ¥64,082.36, maintaining an upward trend shortly after the opening. SoftBank Group was bought back following its sharp decline the previous day, and its gain briefly exceeded ¥200.
SoftBank Group rose more than 7% at one point as investors bought back the stock following its decline of more than 10% the previous day. Kioxia and Murata Manufacturing also rebounded. Buying aimed at a technical rebound prevailed among AI- and semiconductor-related stocks following the previous day's selling.
In the afternoon, rising crude oil prices and interest rates weighed on the market, sending the Nikkei 225 lower again. As investors increasingly stayed on the sidelines ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and the Bank of Japan meeting, some saw a possible end to the correction in AI and semiconductor stocks, while SoftBank Group's sharp rebound also helped support the downside at times.
