On Oct 30, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released the results of the first call for applications under the decarbonized-power regional contribution category of the GX Strategic Regions Program. As the first call under the four categories, selections were made in the manufacturing-capex and data-center-capex categories, with 11 operators selected for projects in 11 municipalities overall.
Under the manufacturing-capex category, 7 municipalities were covered, including Matsushima Town in Miyagi Prefecture, where Oishii Farm is located. Some projects involved substantial eligible subsidy costs. Offshore wind, geothermal and solar power were among the main power sources combined for the projects.
Under the data-center-capex category, 4 operators in 4 municipalities were selected, including Kyocera Communication Systems in Ishikari, Hokkaido, and Computational Resources Development Shimane in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. Nuclear, geothermal and wind power were among the power sources listed.
The second call for applications is scheduled to begin in November. Through evaluation of applications under the four categories and CAPEX support, the GX regional program aims to promote investment.
