The Trust & Safety Association, a general incorporated association, announced that it had established the Japan Online Fraud Countermeasures Alliance (JASA). Major technology companies and government agencies will work together to neutralize online fraud across the entire supply chain.
The Trust & Safety Association announced on 26 August 2026 the formal launch of the Japan Online Fraud Countermeasures Alliance (JASA). Major technology companies including Google and Trend Micro, as well as Meta, OpenAI Japan, TikTok Japan and Match Group, are participating as founding support partners.
The initiative comes as online crime in Japan has surged. According to estimates by the National Police Agency, the number of reported cases reached 43,000 in 2025, while losses totaled ¥325.74 billion, both at record-worst levels. JASA plans to neutralize fraud across the entire supply chain, from initial contact through payment, and to advance practical information sharing and data integration.
Looking ahead, JASA aims to detect and deter new fraud methods at an early stage by combining the technological expertise of global companies with cooperation from overseas fraud networks. Challenges remain, however, including protecting privacy and maintaining the speed and effectiveness of decision-making. Japan's initiative could also expand into a standard framework for Asia.
