Mitsubishi Logistics and 南国殖産 have been selected as the prospective operators for the Kita Futo area of Kagoshima Port and announced plans to operate it for 30 years. Construction is expected to begin in fiscal 2027, with operations scheduled to open in fiscal 2028.
Mitsubishi Logistics, which has received certifications and awards, was selected as the prospective operator for the "Kagoshima Port Honkō District Area Development: Kita Futo Area and Other Areas Utilization Project," for which it jointly applied with 南国殖産. The companies will develop and manage facilities in the area centered on Kita Futo, where ferry and cruise ship passengers come and go. The business term is planned to be 30 years.
The target area is Kagoshima Port's Honkō District, which includes the Kita Futo Passenger Terminal, the ferry terminal for the Sakurajima route and Kagoshima City Aquarium. It covers 11 hectares in the Kita Futo area and 3 hectares around Sakurajima Ferry Terminal.
The proposal includes facility development, including attracting supermarkets and cafés and renovating the terminal building, as well as the management and operation of the individual facilities. Mitsubishi Logistics will draw on its expertise in port districts and its previous experience developing and operating commercial facilities.
Going forward, the companies plan to consult with Kagoshima Prefecture, port stakeholders and ferry and cruise ship users to finalize the details of the project, including its specific content and profitability.
