According to an announcement by KnowBe4, Japan has the highest rate of workplace adoption of AI agents, while insufficient oversight of automated execution also exceeds the global average. KnowBe4 also released a new feature for the Japanese market, “Agent Risk Manager.”
At a press briefing held by KnowBe4 in Tokyo on 4 November 2026, two survey results showing how Japanese companies are using AI, along with a new product, were announced. The findings showed that high adoption rates coexist with delays in establishing oversight frameworks.
Japan’s rate of integrating AI agents into workplace workflows was 79%, well above the global average of 58%, ranking first among 13 countries and regions. Meanwhile, 34% of organizations that had adopted AI agents were operating them autonomously with limited human oversight, approximately twice the global average of 17%.
A separate survey presented at the briefing found that 55.9% of domestic employees had experienced errors or incidents caused by AI or AI agents, highlighting the extent to which security personnel are seeing such cases. Risks cited included leaks or misdirected transmission of confidential information and privilege escalation.
The new “Agent Risk Manager” feature includes visibility into usage, including shadow AI, risk detection, three-level controls for allowing, warning against or blocking activity, and frontline explanations through a coaching function. Availability in the Japanese market is targeted for fiscal 2027.
