According to the fourth “Debt King Ranking” published by Risk Monster, Toyota Motor ranked first by total interest-bearing debt among the Top 20, at ¥43.2054 trillion, while 18 companies recorded year-on-year increases.
The survey aggregated the interest-bearing debt of 3,056 listed companies, excluding financial institutions, based on earnings reports disclosed as of 1 June 2026, and analyzed the data together with solvency and profitability indicators. Toyota Motor ranked first, followed by SoftBank Group in second and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone in third. Many companies in the Top 20 held the same rankings as in the previous period, with the top 6 companies unchanged from the previous survey. Interest-bearing debt increased year on year at 18 of the Top 20 companies.
By industry, there were 4 telecommunications companies, 3 each in automobile manufacturing and general leasing, and 2 each in electric power, railways and general trading. This indicates a tendency for financing to be concentrated in capital-intensive industries requiring large-scale investment. 6 companies were at high-risk levels, meeting at least one of the following criteria: a cash and deposits turnover period of less than 1 month, a borrowing dependence ratio above 50%, or an equity ratio below 20%.
