NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is said to have held direct talks with IBIDEN, a local company in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, against a backdrop of IBIDEN’s stock price surging by more than 7 times at its peak over the past year.
IBIDEN is the world’s largest manufacturer of semiconductor package substrates and is headquartered in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, where it is a major local company. The company has attracted attention after its stock price surged by more than 7 times over the past year, while semiconductor giants are reportedly approaching IBIDEN in competition to secure product supplies.
Major semiconductor companies such as NVIDIA and Intel are reportedly seeking production capacity several times IBIDEN’s current level. When Huang visited Japan in July, he held direct talks with IBIDEN President Kawashima Koji (河島 浩二).
According to an individual who attended the meeting, Huang said, “We have no choice but to rely on IBIDEN, so I want you to make sure it gets done. I’m counting on you.”
The report suggests that IBIDEN may play an important role in the semiconductor supply chain, drawing attention to the company’s future developments.
