Japan Pallet Rental (JPR) added an AI image-recognition function to X-DD. The function automatically identifies pallet types and counts from smartphone photos, supporting data entry and the preparation of reference materials.
Japan Pallet Rental (JPR, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announced on the 7th that it had added an AI pallet image-recognition function to X-DD, its rental-pallet inventory management web application. The function automatically identifies pallet types and quantities from smartphone photos. This automates part of the pallet check-in and check-out process, which previously required visual checks and manual data entry.
With the new function, users photograph the truck bed with a smartphone, and AI identifies the pallets by colour and automatically counts them. The results are entered into X-DD. The photos are also saved at the same time and can be used as reference materials when business partners request verification. The function also supports vehicle number-plate recognition.
The technology uses image-recognition technology from upr Corporation, which jointly operates the X-Rental Open Platform with JPR. The companies expect it to reduce the time required for quantity checks and improve accuracy at transport sites where large numbers of products are loaded together.
JPR said that rental pallets moved between companies in 2025 totalled 237 million, while pallet check-in and check-out transactions for which electronic delivery slips were issued through X-DD reached 8.9 million. It aims to use AI functionality in approximately 20% of all pallet check-in and check-out transactions.
