Japan Pallet Rental added an AI pallet image-recognition feature to X-DD. AI identifies and detects pallets in smartphone images, automatically registering counts by colour, which is expected to help shorten cargo-handling times. The company also presented an example of how the feature would be used at each STEP.
Japan Pallet Rental Co., Ltd. (JPR) announced that it had added an AI pallet image-recognition feature as an option to X-DD, its web application for managing rental pallet inventory. The AI identifies and detects pallets in smartphone images, automatically counts and registers them by colour, and is intended to improve operational efficiency and accuracy at worksites.
The feature is used as follows: STEP1, photograph the truck bed with a smartphone; STEP2, the AI counts the pallets and enters the quantity automatically on the screen; STEP3, confirm and register the data while saving the image. Vehicle registration numbers can also be read. The feature is offered as an X-DD option, and no dedicated equipment or new app installation is required.
The expected benefits include reducing the effort and stress involved in counting and improving accuracy through use of the AI function, although inventory data registration also includes existing data uploads and manual entry. In light of the government's logistics efficiency policy, shorter cargo-handling times could help reduce the burden on worksites.
JPR processes approximately 8.9 million receipt and dispatch transactions annually, while about 237 million of its rental pallets move each year. It aims to raise the overall adoption rate of the AI function to approximately 20% as it becomes more widely used. Going forward, the company will continue to pursue greater efficiency and convenience through integration with X-DD and DD Plus.
