Honda and Nissan have partnered to jointly develop standardized software based on Applied Intuition's vehicle OS. They will jointly build common software and middleware that form the foundation of SDVs, aiming to apply them to vehicles from fiscal 2029 onward.
Honda has entered into a partnership with Applied Intuition, which supports the development of automated driving systems and vehicle operating systems, to jointly develop software-defined vehicles. Using Applied Intuition's integrated vehicle OS, "Vehicle OS," and its development tools, Honda will build the foundation of an SDV platform together with Nissan.
Applied's OS is designed to connect the perception, planning and control domains and is said to be capable of improving the efficiency of SDV development and testing by up to 5x. Nissan is building a cross-functional common software platform and establishing a software development structure that uses AI, while also developing middleware that runs on ECUs.
At the end of August, Honda and Nissan agreed to standardize multiple ECUs, vehicle OS software, middleware and vehicle control software, and signed a joint development agreement. They aim to apply Applied Intuition's technology to vehicles from fiscal 2029 onward.
Articles on restructuring and new vehicle models follow as related coverage, but the focus of this announcement itself is Nissan and Honda standardizing the core elements of their SDV platforms.
