US-based Apple is highly likely to announce its first foldable iPhone at an event at 2 a.m. Japan time on 10 September. The device is widely expected to be called iPhone Ultra, but its launch timing remains undecided.
Apple is reportedly highly likely to unveil its first foldable iPhone at its fall product launch event, scheduled for 2 a.m. Japan time on 10 September. “iPhone Ultra” is the leading candidate for its name, and while a simultaneous announcement is possible, the launch may not take place this year, with the second half of the year or 2027 and beyond also being cited as possibilities.
The starting price is widely expected to exceed $2,000, while higher-end configurations could approach $3,000, according to reports. The inner display is expected to measure about 7.8 inches and the outer display around 5.5 inches, with striking a balance between a slimmer design and portability expected to be a key challenge.
Reports have also emerged of a battery capacity in the 5,500mAh range and around 12GB of memory. Design proposals reportedly under consideration include bringing back Touch ID as an alternative to Face ID and evaluating hinge materials. A book-style design is considered the most likely, with the treatment of the crease, a central challenge of foldable devices, expected to be a key focus.
The launch has not been confirmed to coincide with the announcement, and production could be delayed. As a result, the device is reportedly expected to remain difficult to obtain.
