Stripe announced continued investment in the Japanese market and new products, including the timing of the Stripe Capital launch, unified QR code payment acceptance and expanded in-person payments, along with feature enhancements for the AI era.
At “Stripe Tour Tokyo 2026,” held to mark the 10th anniversary of Stripe's entry into Japan, Stripe indicated that it plans to begin offering Stripe Capital in early 2027. Businesses are expected to gain rapid access to funding through an online application process and transparent pricing structure.
The event also included announcements of expanded functionality enabling 5 major Japanese QR code payment methods—d払い, au PAY, 楽天ペイ, メルペイ and AEON Pay—to be accepted centrally through Stripe; the launch of Stripe Managed Payments to support overseas expansion; and the introduction of a cost-plus model to improve payment-cost transparency.
The company also announced the launch of Tap to Pay on Android and the new Stripe Reader T600 terminal as part of its expansion of in-person payments. This will enable online and in-person payment data to be managed centrally.
Feature updates for the AI era included Checkout Studio, usage-based billing using Metronome, Platform Growth Studio and enhancements to Stripe Radar.
