To mark its 10th anniversary in the Japanese market, Stripe announced expanded financial infrastructure supporting business growth in the AI era, including the launch of Stripe Capital in Japan, support for additional QR code payment services and Stripe Managed Payments to support overseas expansion.
Stripe marked its 10th anniversary in the Japanese market and said that more than 150,000 businesses, including Toyota and Mercari, use its services. Amid the tailwind from AI, more than 45,000 businesses adopted Stripe for the first time, cross-border payment volume rose 43% year on year, and adoption by AI companies increased 38% year on year.
Stripe plans to launch Stripe Capital in Japan in early 2027. Applications will be completed online, with no additional fees beyond a fixed fee, while automatic deductions linked to sales will provide flexibility in managing funds. Sumitomo Mitsui Card said it would cooperate with the launch in Japan.
Support was added for 5 QR code payment services: d払い, au PAY, 楽天ペイ, メルペイ and AEON Pay. Together with PayPay, this will enable Stripe to accept Japan’s major QR payment services through a single platform. In-person payment operations through Stripe Terminal are also scheduled to expand gradually.
With the launch of Stripe Managed Payments, cross-border payments in overseas markets will be optimized through automatic routing. Companies handling digital products will be able to expand into up to 195 markets.
The initiatives also included the introduction of cost-plus pricing, the launch of Tap to Pay on Android, a new Stripe Reader T600 model, and enhancements to Checkout Studio, Metronome, Platform Growth Studio and Stripe Radar, integrating expanded functions for in-person payments, fraud prevention and growth initiatives.
