Nishimatsu Construction announced plans to develop, own and operate “Nishimuraya Kyoto” (provisional name), a ryokan scheduled to open in 2029 in Kamibentencho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. The ryokan will bring the Nishimuraya brand, which has a 165-year history in Kinosaki Onsen, to Kyoto.
The site is close to attractions including Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and is approximately a 10-minute walk from Keihan’s Gion-Shijo Station. The project aims to provide a stay experience focused on harmony between Kyoto’s traditional streetscapes and its history and culture.
Under the plan, Nishimatsu Construction will develop and own the property, while entrusting operation of the ryokan to Kyoto Nishimuraya. The ryokan will open with 13 high-quality rooms.
According to the attached release, Nishimuraya will carry forward the spirit of hospitality cultivated in Kinosaki Onsen and promote new travel experiences drawing on the local resources of Kyoto and Kinosaki. In terms of the contractual arrangements, a building lease reservation agreement was executed on 21 August 2026.
