Amazon has begun early access in Japan to Alexa+, its next-generation personal assistant powered by generative AI. Alexa+ is designed to understand Japanese culture and customs and handle tasks through natural conversation.
Alexa+ is free during the early-access period and will become a ¥3,000-per-month subscription afterward. Amazon Prime members are expected to be able to use the service at no additional charge.
Alexa+ is planned to integrate with services including restaurant reservations powered by Tabelog, Uber Eats, Demae-can and Ticket Pia. It is expected to offer a broad range of functions, including shopping, schedule management and content playback.
The service will be available through Echo Show, Fire TV and compatible televisions, as well as via the browser at alexa.jp. It is also expected to integrate everyday functions such as smart-home controls and music and video playback.
