高島屋 has recycled unused suit fabric and begun selling it as clothing, including blousons, together with 6 domestic brands. Approximately 3,200 kg was collected, and prices are expected to range from the ¥30,000s to the ¥150,000s.
高島屋 began sales on the 7th at 6 stores nationwide, including its Nihombashi store, as part of the “Depart de Loop” project, which recycles fabric from unworn suits for reuse as clothing. The raw material was selected from approximately 3,200 kilograms of suits collected through a collection campaign.
The recycled fabric contains approximately 17% recycled material and was converted into fabric over a period of more than a year. Valstar of Italy and Bujigahill of Uganda produced blousons and trousers suitable for everyday wear. 高島屋 also offers pattern-order jackets and coats.
The products are being sold at 6 stores, where fixtures and hangers made from material derived from collected suits are also used. Prices are generally set in the range of the ¥30,000s to the ¥150,000s.
At a briefing held on the 7th, a buyer said that the project had been achieved through supply-chain innovations despite the perceived difficulty of recycling suits. Another collection campaign is planned for October, and the company intends to continue developing clothing made from unused suits through 2027.
