The Nikkei 225 continued to decline in the Tokyo stock market on the morning of the 29th, with broad-based losses driven by the ex-dividend adjustment and higher U.S. crude oil prices. The index temporarily fell by more than ¥800 and narrowed its decline somewhat toward the afternoon session, but held above the ¥65,000 level.
The ex-dividend date contributed to the decline, with the dividend adjustment lowering the Nikkei 225 by approximately ¥380. Selling pressure intensified in stocks of companies with September and March fiscal year-ends, as selling tends to emerge after the record date.
Selling in semiconductor-related stocks and higher crude oil prices also weighed on the market. Following a sharp decline in Arm Holdings, SoftBank Group fell by more than 2%. WTI crude oil futures traded in the low $93-per-barrel range, making concerns about higher corporate costs a selling catalyst.
Newly listed クラサスケミカル set an opening price of ¥218 and ended morning trading above that level. Total market trading value was approximately ¥3.1125 trillion.
