The Nikkei Average fell sharply from the open in Tokyo trading on the 11th, dropping ¥994.13 from the previous day to ¥64,276.82. Declines in U.S. stocks and higher oil prices dampened investor sentiment, putting selling pressure on a broad range of stocks.
The Nikkei Average extended its losses after opening, at one point falling about ¥1,850, or approximately 2.8%. Sell orders for semiconductor-related stocks with a high contribution to the index weighed on the broader market.
Among individual stocks, major companies Toyota Motor and Sony Group fell. Fast Retailing, which has a high contribution to the index, posted only a slight decline. In AI and semiconductor-related stocks, Advantest and SoftBank Group opened with heavy sell orders.
On the previous day, the 10th, the Nikkei Average had continued to fall, declining ¥374.25 to ¥64,768.53 and slipping below the ¥65,000 mark. TOPIX also remained weak.
