The Nikkei Average extended its decline from the opening, with selling concentrated initially in AI-related stocks. Elevated crude oil prices and US interest rates also weighed on the market, intensifying downward pressure overall.
The Nikkei opened down ¥161.21 from the previous day at ¥64,755.49, extending its decline for a second straight session. Although SOX rebounded in the US market for the first time in 9 trading days, selling of related domestic stocks led the market lower.
Amid lingering concerns surrounding US-based CoreWeave (CRWV.O), elevated oil prices and US interest rates weighed on the market, with the Nikkei widening its decline slightly to 0.8% after the open.
Among AI and semiconductor-related stocks, Advantest and Tokyo Electron were both down more than 1%, while major stocks Toyota Motor and Sony Group remained modestly lower. Fast Retailing showed relative firmness at times.
