The Nikkei opened in the Tokyo market at ¥64,819.56, down ¥504.73 from the previous day, starting lower for a second consecutive session. The decline in technology stocks amid concerns about AI stocks in the US market continued.
By sector, banks, nonferrous metals, and glass and ceramics products were weak, while mining, fisheries and agriculture, forestry, and land transport showed resilience.
Among individual stocks, Tokyo Electron fell more than 2%, Advantest fell more than 4%, and Kioxia Holdings and SoftBank Group opened with sell indications. Toyota Motor, Recruit Holdings and Fast Retailing traded slightly lower.
Following these developments, market sentiment toward technology stocks, particularly semiconductor-related stocks, was reportedly weakening again.
