積水テクノ成型, a wholly owned subsidiary of 積水化学工業, has decided to build the Aichi No. 2 Plant in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, to produce injection-molded products for vehicle interiors and exteriors. The investment will be approximately ¥2 billion, and operations at the new plant are scheduled to begin in February 2029. Domestic production capacity is expected to increase by approximately 40% as a result.
The project is based on the expected progress of restructuring among completed-vehicle assembly sites in the Tokai region and the enlargement and integration of components accompanying vehicle electrification. The company determined that Gamagori is suitable as a site close to automobile production facilities. The plant is planned to become 積水テクノ成型's fourth domestic production site for injection-molded products and its third in the Tokai region, and the company has indicated that it will continue expanding its scale.
The new plant will promote smart production lines in anticipation of a declining working-age population and strengthen cooperation with adjacent 積水ナノコートテクノロジー. The company aims to upgrade surface processing for vehicle components by using sputtering technology to add a metallic appearance, UV-cut and heat-shielding functions without changing the physical properties of the base fabric.
